Friends of Red Hook Pool is a member of the Water Safety Coalition
Red Hook Pool opened on August 17th, 1936 as part of 11 outdoor public pools funded through Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal and built by Robert Moses under Fiorella Laguardia’s administration. Red Hook Pool was the last of the 11 to open and the opening was attended by a crowd of 40,000. Here is the NY Times coverage of the opening.
